NEWARK, NJ, September 2-In a game that was postponed after five innings, the
Somerset Patriots defeated the Newark Bears, 10-2, Tuesday night at Bears
and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The contest was called because of poor field

four runs in the fifth inning. Edgard Clemente delivered a two-out single in
the first and Ryan Radmanovich followed with a two-run home run, his 17th of

Lopez added a two-run home run in the fourth, his 7th of the year, and Norm
Hutchins crushed a grand slam blast for his first home run of the season in
the fifth inning.
Hut Smith (0-5) started and took the loss for the Bears, allowing 6 runs (3
earned) and five hits in 3.2 innings of work. Andy Hazlett allowed the grand
slam to Hutchins and walked three other batters in 1.1 innings.

solo blast, in the first inning and Hipolito Martinez (1-2) extended his
hitting streak to six consecutive games with a fourth inning single.

season for the Patriots. He tossed five innings, allowing two runs and three
hits while striking out five batters.

New Jersey Fact:
"New Jersey is a small state on the eastern seaboard halfway between Honest John Lindsay and the Liberty Bell. It is best known for its turnpike, Atlantic City, Imamu Baraka, Newark Airport and the Morro Castle disaster. Most of its leaders are in jail for stealing money...."
Over thirty years ago, this was how a New York Times writer described New Jersey. The only things that have changed are that now Bloomberg has Lindsay's old job and Amiri Baraka figured out somewhere along the line that it's not too swift for an atheist to use a religious title.
