NEWARK, NJ, August 2nd - The Newark Bears dropped their fourth game in a row Saturday night to the Bridgeport Bluefish by the score of 4-1 at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in Newark, NJ. The Bears, despite getting nine hits, were only able to reach second base twice during the game.

The Bluefish scored two runs in the 3rd inning and two in the 6th. In the 3rd, second baseman Angel Espada doubled to right center field, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and then came around to score on a wild pitch by Bears starter Calvin Maduro. Bluefish third baseman Jose Amado then homered to left field to give Bridgeport a 2-0 lead.

The Bears battled back in the 4th inning, as designated hitter Danny Clyburn singled to left field, followed by right fielder Pito Ramirez reaching first base on a fielder's choice. Ramirez then advanced to second on a ground out by first baseman Francisco Lebron, and came around to score on a single by third baseman Jay LaFlair.

The Bluefish tacked on two more runs in the 6th inning. Maduro got into trouble, as center fielder Rolo Avila doubled to left field and Amado and Offerman each drew walks to load the bases. Avila came around to score as first baseman Willis Otanez grounded into a double play. Amado then scored on Bears catcher Kyle Perry's second passed ball of the night giving Bridgeport a 4-1 lead.

Highlighting the game for the Bears were second baseman Eddy Lara, who finished 3-4 and Jay LaFlair, who was 2-4 with an RBI. Pito Ramirez scored the Bears only run on the evening.

Kevin Henthorne (1-0) picked up his first win of the season for the Bluefish, pitching six innings and allowing one run on eight hits and one walk. Keith Davis pitched two scoreless innings of relief striking out two and allowing only one hit. Mike Guilfoyle was credited with his Atlantic League leading 25th save for Bridgeport, striking out the side in the 9th inning after giving up a lead off walk to Ramirez. Bears starter Calvin Maduro (0-5) took the loss for the Bears, pitching 6 innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out one.

The Bears and Bluefish will meet Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of their three-game series at 1:35 PM at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Matt Wagner (9-4, 3.14) starts for the Bears and Tim Cain (2-2, 5.66) goes for the Bluefish.
