Contact: Jim Cerny (973) 848-1000, ext. 109

NEWARK, NJ, July 23-Three Pennsylvania pitchers limited the Newark Bears to four hits as the Pennsylvania Road Warriors defeated the Bears, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Pennsylvania now has won six of their last eight games, while the Bears have lost two in a row.

Former Bears right-hander Steve Gagliano (3-8) won his second consecutive start. He allowed only one run and two hits in five innings of work in beating his ex-teammates for the first time in three tries this season. Eddy Ramos picked up the save, his third of the year, tossing 2.1 shutout innings in relief. He pitched out of a bases loaded, two-out jam in the 7th inning, inducing Michael Coleman to ground out.

Danny Clyburn drove in both of Newark's runs, his 49th and 50th runs-batted-in on the season. Clyburn had a first inning sacrifice fly and a sixth inning RBI single.

Second baseman Asbel Ortiz led Pennsylvania's nine-hit attack, going 2-3 with a single, a double, a walk and an RBI. Center fielder Gary Johnson also had two hits for the Road Warriors.

Bears starter Calvin Maduro (0-3) took the loss, pitching six innings and allowing three run (2 earned) and seven hits. He struck out five and walked one.

Newark and Pennsylvania will play the middle game of their three-game series Thursday night at 7:05 PM. Matt Wagner (8-4) will start for the Bears and David Rollandini (4-3) pitches for the Road Warriors.

New Jersey Fact:
"New Jersey is a small state on the eastern seaboard halfway between Honest John Lindsay and the Liberty Bell. It is best known for its turnpike, Atlantic City, Imamu Baraka, Newark Airport and the Morro Castle disaster. Most of its leaders are in jail for stealing money...."

Over thirty years ago, this was how a New York Times writer described New Jersey. The only things that have changed are that now Bloomberg has Lindsay's old job and Amiri Baraka figured out somewhere along the line that it's not too swift for an atheist to use a religious title.
